| Whether this roof is appealing to the human eye is not the problem. The Architecture Committee obviously made a mistake. There was an opportunity to correct the mistake by performing the post installation inspection. For some reason this was not accomplished. We are now getting into a lawsuit over improper shingles with a long time resident of Eastwood who has always been an association member in good standing. Does not seem at all equitable to allow a contractor to get away with breaking the rules and enter into a lawsuit with a resident. The resident has invested money (dues) in Eastwood for many years, the contractor is only looking to make money in Eastwood. The improper shingles on the home of our resident do not look any worse than the contractor shingles in question on Canterbury. So what's the deal? |

| If anyone has ANY idea of what to do about the house with plastic covered windows, please step up? A previous board has tried to work with this gentleman's sisters in CA and Kansas, adult protective services, and what not. Truly, we tried to help and get the issue resolved... |

Want to see the benefits of our roof requirements? Drive through a neighboorhood that does not have any guidelines. I did. I saw a red roof, a patchy grey one, a green one, a white one with black streaks from the nails and various shades and conditions of each. This all within a two block stretch. Maybe the bylaws should be updated, but we did not have 75% of the residents support plans to go through the process to update. Whatever they state, the guidelines are their to help us. With the proper diplomacy we can make them what they need to be for present time and we can do it together. We are a community that should be able to take care of one another. What would we do if we had to depend on each other, such as with a disaster? We would pitch in and do whatever we could for our neighbors. We would show them we care. Why wait for a disaster? We don't have to change each other - we need to accept each other.
Why can't we all just get along? |

| FYI. the people who did not follow the established rules and had improper roofing shingles put on their home no longer live in Eastwood. I am sure they left laughing. |

| Definitely time for a big change. When the residents of Eastwood were given the opportunity to update the rules and make changes, they did nothing. With no action taken the rules stand as is and all of us should work together to ensure conformance to the existing rules. Maybe we should resurrect the chance to change the rules and get up to date. |

| The board preached the philosophy of only acting on a violation if someone directly affected made a formal complaint. The closest neighbors of the roof shingle violation house did not make a formal complaint, yet the Board of Directors went so far as to enter Eastwood into a lawsuit we could not win. The inconsistent behavior of the Board of Directors is well known throughout the neighborhood, and this is a perfect example. |

I so love the Michael Jackson song "Man in the Mirror" - gotta look at yourself to make a change..... I do not believe the board who agonized over the roof on Chaucer Crescent had any other option but to have the case tried. If not, they/we would have been faulted for not taking action? We either have covernants or we don't - written a long time ago and agreed (obviously) with certain weaknesses.
I still love this place dearly and am happy to call Eastwood home.

And guess what????>?>with an injunction and restraining order he can pretty much do as he pleases; OR IT WILL COST EVEN BIGGER BUCKS. | Anonymous wrote: | | Patience gone, I have chosen to get into the conflict concerning improper roof shingles. To the best of my knowledge, the shingles in question on Chaucer Crescent were a flagrant violation of the rules. The homeowner has lived in Eastwood for many years, and knew the existing rules. The homeowner chose to ignor the rules and did as he/she pleased. Did not ask for approval, installed the wrong shingles. The contractor who built the home on Canterbury did request permission/approval to install the shingles and provided sample to the Architecture Committee. Be it right or wrong, the Architecture Committee did grant approval for the shingles that are on the roof. Very simple, one ignored the rules and did as they pleased; one got approval for and installed the wrong shingles. |
